Our Utilities Branch, Division of Facilities Management and Engineering, maintains one of the largest and most complex utility operations within the National Park Service. Our mission is to protect park resources while providing vital services such as water and wastewater management, ensuring a sustainable future for this national treasure.

Description:

As a Utility Systems Operator Helper, you will assist journeyman operators in the repair, maintenance, and operation of water treatment facilities, collection systems, lift stations, distribution systems, composting toilets, and comfort stations. This role will provide you with hands-on experience in one of the largest utility operations in the National Park Service.

This opportunity is based in Yosemite National Park, where interns may be assigned to locations such as El Portal, Wawona, Yosemite Valley, or the Backcountry Utilities team. You will work directly on-site at Yosemite National Park, with potential travel required for projects in remote locations. Cohorts typically start in April and October, with applications accepted year-round.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and wastewater facilities.

  • Support park infrastructure repairs, including lift stations, distribution systems, and composting toilets.

  • Work in various locations within Yosemite National Park, including potentially remote backcountry facilities.

  • Collaborate with a team of experienced operators to ensure park utilities' safe and efficient operation.

Qualifications:

  • Active duty service member eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program.

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to relocate to Yosemite National Park for the duration of the internship.

  • Interest in environmental conservation and sustainability is a plus.
